Findings from 2023 survey of math teachers regarding technology usage in math instruction:
- Most math teachers say they are using the right amount of technology for math instruction.
- Teachers are more likely to say they are using too little technology to teach math than to say they are using too much. They are also more likely to say that, ideally, they would use more math technology—not less.
- Most math teachers give their instructional tools high marks, rating them “good.”
- Most teachers, principals, and district leaders say math instruction should change in order to address the existence of artificial intelligence.
- Educators are more likely to support measures that involve preventing students from using AI rather than incorporating the technology’s use into math instruction.
- District leaders are more likely than principals or teachers to support the incorporation of AI into math learning.
- Teachers may need more training if they are to adjust math instruction to account forAI. Just 10 percent of teachers overall have had any professional development on AI. Kurtz (2023)
